Travel / Ferry information – Race 1 only


Rottnest Island is approximately 20km off Fremantle, and is an easy 30min Ferry Ride or quicker by power boat.

We have arranged two travel options to the island for you at discounted rates through Rottnest Express and Rottnest Fast Ferries.

When booking your ferry and bike travel as well as accommodation, it is important to read all the following information to ensure you are aware of timings, locations, costings and any other details you need to know to ensure a smooth safe travel for you and your bike.


Timing for your travel to and from Rottnest Island is important to ensure you arrive in time to prepare for your race, and allow sufficient time to pack up and make the last ferry on Sunday. We are highly recommending athletes racing the Long Course event to travel to the Island on Saturday and if you are expected to finish after 5.5-6hours (cut off 7hours) then we recommend you stay on the Island Sunday Night. And why wouldn’t you want to – the perfect chance to celebrate your achievement with us!

  • Sufferfest Long Course Race Start 9.15am
  • OlyFest Course Race starts 10:30am
  • SprintFest Course Race Start 11.30am


There are two Ferry Companies that service Rottnest Island. Rottnest Express and Rottnest Fast Ferries.

We recommend if your traveling on the morning of the race to use the following ferry services

Long Course competitors 

– Rottnest Express ferry service leaving Northport @ 6:45am  

– Rottnest Fast Ferries departs from Hillarys @ 7:30am.

Short Course competitors 

– Rottnest Express (B-Shed) departing at 9:30am or Northport Departing 10:30am

– or Rottnest Fast Ferries (Hillarys)  Departing @ 10am.

And for Return Trip

– Rottnest Express you have the option of the 2:10pm, 3:55pm, 4:25pmThese services all travel to B-Shed and Northport

– Rottnest Fast Ferries 4:30pm

Each Ferry Service offers a low end bike transport option, with restricted numbers on each ferry – please ensure you read full details below and those outlined on their individual websites. Please also ensure you are aware of luggage/bag restrictions of each of the Ferry Services.

It will be important for competitors to plan out their travel – and this may include booking accommodation based on ferry options and timings.

To Book:
Call Rottnest Fast Ferries on 9246 1039 and quote your Rottnest Triathlon receipt number to receive the discounted ferry price. Spectators: Must book with a competitor to receive the discount. Bike Freight: $15 per bike, space on the ferry is limited so we recommend booking in advance. Hillarys Boat Harbour has FREE PARKING for all Rottnest passengers.


There will be two options for bike transport to/from the island. A standard service via Rottnest Express or Rottnest Fast Ferries, OR a VIP Service via our private barge. Please ensure you read full details below and on each of the ferry websites to ensure you are aware of full details and conditions of transportation of your bike.
